Joan Rivers has died at 81. The comedian had been on life support at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York since suffering a cardiac arrest last week. Her daughter Melissa Rivers announced the news in a statement: “My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.” She added that her mother had passed away surrounded by family and friends at 1:17pm on Thursday 4 September. Comedian, actress, talk show host, best-selling author... there's no doubt Joan Rivers had an extraordinary life. Her career spanned six decades and she was still working solidly and very much a star when she passed away at age 81.
