KOGI TO CONSTRUCT BRIDGE ACROSS RIVER NIGER

A long bridge stretching about two kilometres is to be constructed across River Niger and Benue in Kogi State to ease the movement of people from the hinterland into the state capital. According to sources close to the Government House, Lokoja, the construction of the bridge would commence in October, this year. The project, which is expected to gulp N49 billion, is to be completed in 36 months. The bridge is expected to link Ganaja in Ajaokuta Local Government Area to Shintakun in Basa Local Government Area of the state. The project, which is under Public Private Partnership (PPP) is expected to be supported by the Kogi State Government. It is believed that the project would improve the economic activities of the state. The Managing Director of the company handling the project, Walcott Nigeria Limited, Mr. Christopher Esiah, who led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada (rtd), on Monday, disclosed that they were proud to partner with the state government on the project. Responding, Captain Wada, was optimistic that the bridge, when completed, would enhance the socio-economic development of the state. The governor stated that his administration would support the project with solid political will, saying the government believed in the project. “I will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the project is completed in 36 months projection by the company,” he promised. Wada, who said the project would attract investors to the state, believed that the project would enable the state to become an industrial giant of the North Central Zone of the country as it will attract more investors to the state. The team led by the governor later visited the site of the project
