PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN WANTS TO EXTEND THE STATE OF EMERGENCY IN BORNO, YOBE AND ADAMAWA STATE

President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the National Assembly to extend for another six months the state of emergency in Borno - from where the girls were abducted - and two other north-eastern states (Yobe and Adamawa). Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states have witnessed high rates of attacks by Boko Haram and have been placed on emergency rule since May 1st 2013. The new proposed extention if implemented would elapse in November 2014, three months before the general election.
